March 2, 1941: A Heinkel made a forced landing near Pondsbury in the centre of Lundy island. The crew managed to escape unhurt and were captured. A few weathered remnants of this aircraft (like melted aluminium, a cylinder block, and propellers) can still be seen today near Halfway Wall.

April 1, 1941: A month later, another Heinkel He 111 crashed heavily into the island's cliffs after being damaged in combat. Tragically, this crash resulted in two fatalities, while the three surviving crew members were taken as prisoners of war.
